Student Scholarships

Scholarships are open to all students enrolled for a degree or diploma of relevance to the broad field of forestry at a New Zealand tertiary institution. They recognise excellence at the student level and reward innovation and entrepreneurial potential. 

The three student scholarships being offered by the Foundation are:

Undergraduate Scholarship:

  • Available to students enrolled for a forestry or forestry-related degree at a New Zealand university
  • One award of $1,000

Frank Hutchinson Scholarship

  • Available to postgraduate students enrolled for a forestry or forestry-related postgraduate degree at a New Zealand university
  • One award of $1,000

Mary Sutherland Scholarship

  • Available to students enrolled for a forestry or forestry-related course at a New Zealand polytechnic
  • One award of $1,000

In assessing applications, the judges will regard the following:

  • Academic record, student background and forestry aspirations
  • Research projects being undertaken (particularly relevant for the Frank Hutchinson postgraduate scholarship)
  • Presentation of application and communication of ideas
  • The judges have the discretion not to make an award if the required standards are not reached or the criteria are not met.
  • The judges' decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Applications for the student scholarships must be made using the application form set out below.

Scholarships will be announced at the awards dinner of the NZIF Conference in Rotorua on Tuesday 5th September. see here for details on the conference
