Call For Papers

Call for Papers for the 2019 ANZIF Conference Open Now:

Jon Dey Award

In September 2015, the Board of the NZIF Foundation agreed with the family of the late Jon Dey to establish the Jon Dey Award.  Details are as follows:

To assist research projects in the areas of work study or new technology aimed at improving forest engineering and harvest productivity.  Projects need to be regarded as likely to be of practical application in New Zealand forestry.  The research project must be undertaken at a recognised scientific institute or tertiary education institute in New Zealand under qualified supervision, and with demonstrated support from those working in the field of forest engineering and harvesting.

Funds for the award arose from donations from the Dey family and Jon’s work, Rotary and NZIF colleagues.

Rather than establishing a separate fund within the Foundation accounts, the Foundation Board made a commitment to the Dey family to make the agreed awards.

Size and term of Award

To be determined annually by the Foundation Board in association with members of the Dey family, taking into account once the available funding is established.  It is anticipated there could be one or more annual awards, made available over a few years.  Up to $3,500 is available in 2018.

Applications should be made in writing and provide the following information:

  • The applicant’s name, qualifications and contacts;
  • Description of the project;
  • Details of how the project is of relevance to improving, in a practical manner, forest engineering and harvesting in New Zealand;
  • Names and details of any collaborators in the project;
  • When the project was, or is to be started and the expected completion date;
  • Amount sought and how it will be used;
  • Details of the project budget including other sources of funding;
  • The names and contact details of two referees and stating their relationship to both the applicant and the project.
